UK bans Nigerian Students and others from bringing in dependants

In a surprising twist at the dawn of the new year, the UK's Home Office unveiled a striking policy change on January 1st. This new regulation effectively prohibits Nigerian students, along with their international counterparts, from bringing family members into the UK under the study visa program.

The announcement, which emerged on the platform X - the successor to Twitter, stirred considerable discussion.

The policy, however, carves out a notable exception. It spares those engaged in postgraduate research or who are beneficiaries of government-sponsored scholarships, leaving them unaffected by these restrictions.

In a statement brimming with resolve, the Home Office declared, "Our goal is unwavering: a substantial reduction in migration. Henceforth, new foreign students will face restrictions on accompanying family members into the UK. Exceptions exist solely for postgraduate researchers and recipients of government scholarships."
