Poverty not accepted under my leadership - President Tinubu

Addressing the 55th International Conference, Exhibition, and Emerald Anniversary of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria on Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu articulated a vision for Nigeria under his leadership. Rejecting the notion that poverty is a shameful circumstance, he deemed it unacceptable in the context of his governance.

Emphasizing the pivotal role of human resources in shaping the nation's destiny, Tinubu called for a collective vision that transcends the ordinary. His vision revolves around transforming Nigeria into a nation of creators and builders, ensuring prosperity for current and future generations. He reiterated that poverty, while not shameful, is unequivocally unacceptable. The President envisions a Nigerian workforce where every citizen who wishes to be gainfully employed can provide for themselves and their families. Banishing poverty is the shared goal.

Represented by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkiru Onyejiocha, Tinubu underscored his administration's commitment to steering Nigeria towards self-reliance and reducing dependency on external entities in the face of global challenges.

The President outlined an ambitious plan for industrial activity, envisioning unique hubs tailored to each region's strengths. The commitment to ending poverty is intricately linked to a focus on economic growth and job creation. Tinubu recognizes that sustainable development hinges on fostering an environment with ample job opportunities, ensuring food security, and eradicating poverty.

Commenting on the critical role of HR practitioners, Tinubu highlighted their significance in molding and effectively managing people to catalyze economic resurgence in an increasingly competitive and dynamic world.

In a parallel sentiment, Olusegun Mojeed, the President and Chairman of Council at CIPM, emphasized the crucial responsibility of HR in shaping progressive organizations and nations. Sustainable people practices, he asserted, serve as a potent catalyst for cultural, national, and infrastructural development, with talent supply playing a pivotal role in creating and shaping the conditions for organizational and national operations.
