Israel-Hamas War: Premature babies wrapped in foil and placed beside hot water for them to be alive

Amidst the Israel-Hamas conflict, a dire situation unfolds at Al-Shifa, Gaza's largest hospital, where doctors resort to wrapping premature babies in foil and placing them beside hot water in a desperate attempt to sustain life. The hospital director, Dr. Muhammad Abu Salmiya, describes the conditions as "catastrophic" due to Israeli-Hamas clashes, dwindling fuel reserves, and the hospital's inability to function.

Reports reveal staff struggling to keep newborns alive and warm after oxygen supplies depletion, necessitating the manual transfer of babies from the neonatal unit to another part of the hospital.

Dr. Medhat Abbas, Gaza's health ministry director general, reveals that medical staff performed life-saving C-sections for infants whose mothers perished. Without electricity and mothers, these infants face a challenging journey to survive.

As winter approaches, Abbas warns of worsening conditions. A freelance journalist inside Al-Shifa paints a grim picture of bodies awaiting burial, ambulances unable to collect the wounded, and life-support systems inactive due to power cuts.

President Joe Biden, questioned about Gaza hospitals, emphasizes the need to protect them. However, inside Al-Shifa, operating rooms remain non-functional, and the World Health Organization states the hospital has been without power for three days, rendering it non-operational.

Amid conflicting claims, Israel alleges a Hamas command center under Al-Shifa, denied by Hamas and hospital officials. A US official, citing intelligence, suggests a Hamas command node under the hospital, accusing Hamas of diverting hospital fuel for militant activities.
